
Canadian author David Morrell created the Green Beret character "John Rambo". The book was later adapted to the screen. Stallone starred in First Blood (1982) with Richard Crenna & Brian Dennehy. The film that wowed viewers with its controversial take about the Vietnam war that was relatively unfamiliar to American mental spheres, proved to be undoubtedly a hit. The movie, despite its political stance made it an international hit. The sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), followed. It received less criticism because of its narrative that implied that American MIAs were being detained in Vietnam. But, the film's producers insist that the film's bad press does not have a place. John Rambo's return to the ring proved to be a big success for Stallone. It cemented his place as one of America's most popular male actors of the 1980s. Stallone experienced a huge surge in popularity and called Rocky Balboa his old sparring with partner. He returned to his ring to ensure American pride from an alleged Soviet threat, a Russian-born boxer known as Ivan Drago (played by curt Dolph Ludgren ) in Rocky IV (1985). While the film's fourth "Rocky" had a reputation for being controversial, it was not the most popular with "Rocky" movie buffs because due to its violence and violence in particular when compared to prior films. The evidence is clear by the brutal beating Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) received at hands by the "Siberian Express".
